(Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) 4 years after its launch, the GLOBIS University MBA Program (Full-time, or FTMBA) achieved a new milestone, topping 100 alumni with its graduation on August 21. The 27 new graduates from 16 countries enhance the truly global alumni network to 103 graduates, 48% of them women, from 30 countries and regions on five continents (93% non-Japanese).

Leandro Castillo, of the Philippines, reflected on his background, family and MBA experience. He remarked to his classmates that “the world needs more heroes… By taking care of the people we love and creating value, we can be those heroes. You will be a target; people will judge you; expectations will be high; you will tire and be taken for granted. Be a hero anyway.”

Laura Glavind, from Denmark, admitted that none of her class “believes that our MBA certificates entitle us to go out and rule the world. We are humble and hope to make a difference.” She thanked her classmates and pointed out what made her year truly meaningful: “what makes GLOBIS truly amazing and unique is the fact that it is a network of real people eager to support each other and collaborate to realize a common vision of changing society in a new and better direction.” She advised, “Go and be leaders-but be supporters too. Since in the end, that is what leadership is all about-supporting other people.”

Congratulating the graduates, GLOBIS President Yoshito Hori said, “Today you start your new lives as Visionary Leaders who enter society as creators and innovators. Take risks, enjoy adversity, and live wonderful lives.” He continued, “One year at an MBA program is not enough. Lifelong learning is necessary. Lend a hand to your friends in hard times…. Keep pursuing your mission, because knowing your mission will set the direction of your life, and give you energy when you confront difficulties.”

About the 2015-2016 GLOBIS MBA (Full-time) Program:
1. A strong focus on Personal Mission
One of the GLOBIS Educational Principles is that students discover their personal mission in order to follow their life’s path. FTMBA students met five times throughout the year to discuss this topic in-depth, culminating in their presentation at the graduation ceremony.

2. Connect with about 100 companies in the Corporate Mentorship Program (CMP)
FTMBA graduates were exposed to 93 CMP global companies in Japan through internships, on-site visits, collaborations on corporate research projects, and potential job opportunities. Along the way, they learn about Japanese corporate culture and leadership development.

3. A diverse array of extra-curricular activities
Throughout the year, students participated in a Global Sharing Program with employees from the Tokyu Group, attended a cross-cultural workshop with Shinagawa Women’ Academy, took a tour of the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake in Northeast Japan, joined an exchange program with CEIBS in Shanghai, China’s No. 1 business school, and networked with leaders from around the world at the G1 Global Conference in Tokyo.
