27 Graduates, 15 Countries: GLOBIS University’s 2020 Full-Time English MBA Graduation Ceremony

CATEGORIES:GLOBIS UNIVERSITY

Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo–GLOBIS University held its annual graduation ceremony for the 2020 Full-time English MBA Program on August 23, adopting a hybrid format for the first time. The event was attended by 25 graduates from 14 countries who joined both online and in person. Two graduates were unable to attend. The GLOBIS MBA in English was launched with the Part-time MBA Program in 2009, followed by the Full-time MBA in 2012. Since then, a total of 518 students have graduated.

Delivering the commencement speech, president and founder of GLOBIS University Yoshito Hori, said “Adversity provides great opportunities to improve yourself. If you are in your comfort zone, you are not learning or improving yourself.”

Josephine Lois Armas Florendo, a graduate from the US, referenced the effects of the coronavirus in her graduation speech and encouraged her fellow graduates to forge ahead into the new business landscape:

“2020 will forever be known as the year that the world stopped moving. Despite the obstacles, trials, and tribulations that each and every one of us have faced, both individually and collectively, we all survived.”

Graduate Ralph Ivan Uy from the Philippines referenced a GLOBIS pillar of learning in his speech: “The concept of kokorozashi was one of the key factors that made me choose to do my MBA at GLOBIS. I realized during the program that kokorozashi is instrumental to how you live your life.”

With more than 90% of students coming from outside of Japan, the GLOBIS Full-time MBA offers a truly global study experience, whether online or in person. This year’s graduates come from 15 countries: Andorra, Brazil, China, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Nepal, the Philippines, South Korea, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Thailand, the US, and Vietnam.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, GLOBIS University has taken steps to ensure the safety of its students and faculty members. On March 2, all classes were moved online–a relatively seamless transition, thanks to years of experience with online teaching.

GLOBIS has involved students in the decision-making process concerning COVID-19 measures, mainly through online meetings with student representatives to assess needs. One-on-one consultation sessions and special lectures were also arranged with faculty to ensure no lost learning opportunities. For students suffering financially from the impact of COVID-19, GLOBIS set up a special student loan.

GLOBIS University strives to equip future business leaders with cutting-edge management knowledge through Technovate courses, seminars with top global leaders, and other unique student experiences.
