Three students represented their incoming classes with speeches. Willem Moore, of South Africa, mainly takes courses at 2 am in his home country. Visiting Tokyo for the ceremony, he challenged his classmates to “be the leaders that leave a legacy of diversity, memories, and stories of how we are making the world a better place, that we can share in our network, that will be deeply engraved in our minds & hearts.”

Yukiko Tokiwa, of Japan, also takes classes online as well as on-campus, taking advantage of the unique new program that allows unlimited, seamless integration among both course methods She built on the network theme that Mr. Moore began with, emphasizing the encouragement her classmates gave her and the resulting confidence, pushing her to strive for her MBA: “We are all part of the GLOBIS MBA community.

Representing the Full-Time batch, Kenji Chiong Inukai, of the Philippines, owns “a social enterprise called The Paper Project that provides access to livelihood for survivors of human or sexual trafficking.” One of them is now graduating college, and he shared how it affects him: “Now, after seeing how much a proper education means to our young soon-to-be graduate, I feel I owe it to her and the rest of my colleagues to pursue this MBA degree to better myself and my company.”

GLOBIS University President Yoshito Hori welcomed the new students. Based on the GLOBIS Educational Principles of building skills, fostering a network, and cultivating a personal mission, he implored the students to take risks, in order to aim to become visionary leaders who create and innovate societies throughout Japan, Asia, and the world.

350.jpgUntil last year, the Part-time MBA program (English) started in April. With the start of the new Part-Time On-Campus and Online MBA program in October, all English students can join GLOBIS together at the same time. This also provides more flexibility for all of the students to take courses online, interacting live with their classmates. The Entrance Ceremony, which was also attended by students online from their computer terminals, provided an opportunity for everyone in the community to meet each other face-to-face.
