(Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) GLOBIS University celebrated the graduation of 48 MBA students from 15 countries at a ceremony in Tokyo on Sunday, May 20. The new graduates join a community now numbering 376 people from 55 countries who have completed GLOBIS’ English MBA programs since their launch in 2009.

Two graduates represented their class with speeches, both sharing their journeys that brought them to Japan and GLOBIS. Eunmi Kim of South Korea found an opportunity to work in Japan with her company and joined GLOBIS while stationed in Tokyo. While studying at GLOBIS, she developed a personal mission to “become a visionary leader who inspires people with passion and energy.” Eunmi was so committed to completing her degree at GLOBIS that even after her post in Japan had ended, she flew from Seoul to Tokyo more than 120 times over 19 months to take courses. She was inspired by Oprah Winfrey’s quote: “You become what you believe,” and even when times were tough, she imagined who she wanted to become. GLOBIS taught her how to “compete to win” and to “distinguish [herself] as a key player in the business world.”

Next, Shane McGrath of Australia, who has spent more than 25 years in Japan, joined GLOBIS because it “offered a very flexible atmosphere where people who worked could study, challenge themselves, and build their network.” His mentors soon challenged him: “You get out what you put in.” Throughout his MBA journey, he came to realize the true meaning of this phrase, including responsibility to each other and finding “our authentic leadership.” He thanked his classmates for their support.

GLOBIS President Yoshito Hori challenged the graduates to remember their “sense of mission.” He went on to explain that this mission “comes from the pursuit of why we are born and what we shall use our lives for.” President Hori concluded with a message to the graduates, saying “I hope you will continue to find true meaning in your lives.”
