26 Graduates, 15 Countries: GLOBIS University’s 2022 Full-time English MBA Graduation Ceremony

CATEGORIES:GLOBIS UNIVERSITY

Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo–GLOBIS University held its annual graduation ceremony for the 2022 Full-time English MBA Program on August 28. All 26 graduating students attended the ceremony in person, some family and guests joined remotely.

While delivering his commencement speech, GLOBIS University President and Founder Yoshito Hori shared these words: “During this year, you have been taught a wide range of important business and communication skills. But learning does not stop after one year. I hope you will all work on continuously expanding your skills and knowledge throughout your careers and lives.”

Michaelle Bastien, a graduate from Haiti, spoke about the obstacles her class faced through the pandemic, and the community they built in response;

“I would include a proverb from my native country Haiti, that translates to: ‘behind mountains, there are mountains.’ This proverb reflects the experience we went through during these past 13 months: After each challenge, another emerged even more demanding than the last…GLOBIS taught us more than just business and leadership skills, more than just challenging us  to rethink our personal mission. We were taught the true meaning of community.”

Tanya Bamberg, from Luxembourg, shared about the resilience of her classmates, as students during the pandemic.

“Our journey as a class began rooted in uncertainty made all the more profound by the fact that we were tasked to learn, work, and grow with each other without the benefit of tangible human interaction.  When finally met in person, the reconciliation of our online and offline personas – diverse and distinct – provided us with as much fuel as glue to bring us together as a collective, flexible yet deeply connected.”

The GLOBIS MBA in English was launched with the Part-Time Online MBA Program in 2009, followed by the Full-time MBA Program in 2012. Since then, a total of 689 students have graduated. With more than 90% of students coming from outside of Japan, the GLOBIS Full-time MBA offers a truly global study experience. This year’s graduates come from 15 countries: Canada, China, France, Haiti, Indonesia, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines, and Thailand.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, GLOBIS University has taken steps to ensure the safety of students and faculty members. On March 2, 2020, all classes were moved online in three business days–a relatively seamless transition, thanks to years of experience with online teaching. Classes are currently operating both online and in person, in accordance with the Japanese Government’s recommendations for academic institutions.

GLOBIS has also involved students in the decision-making process concerning COVID-19 measures, mainly through online meetings with student representatives to assess needs. One-on-one consultation sessions ensured no lost learning opportunities.
